Meet the Characters

  • SADE.

The enigmatic and powerful leader of El Castillo de Nazar. She orchestrates the "night escapes" and acts as a spiritual guide and protector of the isolated ones (aislados). She possesses special knowledge and abilities, including ubiquity and control over certain elements. Sade embodies mystery, power, and duality. Initially, she appears as a savior, but her role becomes more ambiguous as the Castle's secrets are revealed. Her final sacrifice (crucifixion and post-mortem menstruation) elevates her to a messianic/Christ-like figure, questioning the nature of good, evil, and redemption through radical love. She is the axis around which the morality and purpose of the Castle revolve. She has reddish eyes

  • MILAN

Initially presented as a kind and efficient guardian, Jack's wife, and Sade's close collaborator. She handles the logistics and well-being of the isolated ones. Her backstory reveals she was a scientist and was "rescued" by Sade and Jack. She is jealous of Sade and has plans for the future after life in the Nazar Castle. Keep an eye on her. She is not what she looks like. She has reddish eyes.

  • JACK

A famous Mexican research scientist in his previous life, now one of the main guardians of the Castle alongside Sade and Milan. He is the last custodian of the Holy Grail (the copper cup) before its arrival at Nazar. Milan's husband. Jack connects the world of paranormal research and quantum theories with ancestral wisdom and sacred artifacts. He represents the burden of knowledge and responsibility. His divided loyalty (to Milan, Sade, and the Castle) adds complexity. He vanished in the 80’s and his work is recognized as the foundation for The Matrix concept. He has reddish eyes.

  • NAZAR CASTLE

The Nazar Castle serves as a supernatural sanctuary for individuals seeking to disappear from their lives without dying. It functions as a living entity that feeds on human secrets and suffering while offering the possibility of redemption through isolation and sacrifice. The Castle operates under its own mystical laws—inhabitants cannot easily leave, and it seems to choose who arrives rather than people finding it by chance. It acts as both refuge and prison, providing escape from unbearable life circumstances while demanding a spiritual price from its residents. Ultimately, the castle serves as a testing ground for souls, where broken individuals must confront their deepest guilt and shame, with the promise of transformation through suffering.

  • ELÍAS DE MONTSALVAT

An ancestral and all-powerful figure, a Templar knight who appears to be the embodiment of the Castle's will or a divine holy entity. He is the ultimate guardian of the Holy Grail and Nazar's deepest secrets. Elías represents primordial justice, supreme authority, and the unbreakable rules of the Castle. He is the force that restores order or imposes a new one when needed. Many questions about him will be answered in The Forbidden Chapter (click on the Curious? button above). He is a highly successful Spanish architect. The story is told through Leonardo’s journey. When he’s diagnosed with an incurable cancer, Leonardo accepts Sade’s invitation to escape and flee to Nazar Castle, in order to avoid suffering to his family. Leonardo cares deeply for his family and feels incredibly guilty about leaving them behind to ensure his own survival. After a few years, he discovers the catacombs, a hidden place in the castle that keeps in secret not only records of all the other residents lives, but also hundreds of secrets from the universal history (like Hitler’s passport to Argentina). He is the father of Mar Coral.

  • MAR CORAL

She is Leonardo’s daughter. A kid who is pushed at a very young age to the advenure of her life. Keep an eye on her

  • YUMIKO SATO (isolated / resident).

A former Japanese financial executive who fled the Yakuza after uncovering fraud. She becomes Leonardo's main ally and confidant in investigating the Castle's secrets. Yumiko represents intelligence, courage, and the pursuit of truth. She shares a past connection to Leonardo’s adding a layer of destiny.

  • ANDREI POPESCU

A young Romanian hacker who tangled with the wrong intelligence agencies. He develops a relationship with Jessica Smith. Andrei represents youth, rebellion, and the consequences of actions in the digital world. His past is directly linked to Jessica's, creating tension and exploring themes of guilt and possible redemption in their interactions.

  • ALEKSANDER NOWAK

A former Polish police officer who uncovered a corruption network and had to flee after his family was murdered. Aleksander represents the fight for justice in a corrupt system and the trauma of loss. His police instincts lead him to be skeptical and investigate, playing a role in uncovering the truth about the Castle. Without knowing, his previous life is connected to Thandiwe’s.

  • EMILY THOMPSON

A Canadian housewife who fled an abusive and mobconnected husband. She also ages prematurely when trying to escape with Klaus. Emily represents the victim seeking refuge and safety. Without knowing, her previous life is connected to Dr. Klaus Zimmerman’s. She highlights themes of destiny, unexpected connection, and finding solace in shared tragedy.

  • THE HOODED ONES

Mysterious, possibly non-human presences that serve as guardians or manifestations of the Castle's will and soul. They are a spicy addition to the supernatural and otherworldly atmosphere of Nazar. They act as silent enforcers of the Castle's rules.

  • INGRID LARSEN

A Norwegian primary school teacher who witnessed a murder committed by a politician in Brazil and had to flee. Ingrid represents innocence caught in dangerous circumstances and the difficulty of having the truth heard against power. Her connection to Lucas's son adds a layer of tragic irony.

  • DR. KLAUS ZIMMERMANN

A German doctor who made a fatal mistake in surgery and was persecuted. Klaus embodies professional guilt and the desire for redemption. He will face the physical consequences that brutally illustrate the impossibility of fleeing Nazar. His past is connected to Emily's life.

  • JESSICA SMITH

A young and famous American actress whose career was destroyed by a media scandal (leaked intimate photos). Jessica explores themes of uncomplicated life, fame, invasion of privacy, and public downfall. Her relationship with Andrei is revealed with a crushing impact on the story.

  • LUCAS OLIVEIRA

A former Brazilian politician involved in corruption and crimes, who faked his death. He commits a huge action in the Castle after his true nature is revealed to everyone. Lucas demonstrates that the night escape does not always lead to peace and that some pasts are too dark to be redeemed. His appearance in the story is a shocking event that shows the fragility of the isolated ones and the severity of truth. Without knowing, his previous life is connected to Ingrid’s.

  • THE HOLY GRAIL

The Holy Grail serves as a protective artifact and symbol of divine intervention within the Castle's dark ecosystem. Originally safeguarded by Templars in 1307, stolen by Nazis in 1942, and eventually returned to the Castle by Jack and Sade, it represents sacred power that can override the Castle's rules. It's the one object that can truly protect souls in this adventure.

  • THANDIWE MOKOENA

A South African heiress to a fortune built on exploitation in the diamond industry. Thandiwe embodies inherited guilt and the moral conflict of benefiting from injustice. Her story intertwines with Aleksander's, exploring themes of global corruption and personal responsibility.

  • VICTOR BALLI

A new isolated one with a dark past who is quickly judged and consumed by the Castle. Serves as an early and brutal warning of the Castle's power and selective (or voracious) nature, showing that not all who enter are "saved" in the same way. Victor will later lead a spin off of the original novel, because his story is worth to be told.
